The Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad is on a three-day working visit to the United Kingdom.

In implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic aimed at reaching out to the Algerian community abroad and listening to their concerns, recognising them as a force that should be involved in the development process, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, paid a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from 5 to 7 June 2026.

Accompanied by the Algerian Ambassador to London and the Consul General in London, the Secretary of State began his visit with an initial meeting on Friday 5 June with a group of highly qualified Algerian professionals residing in the United Kingdom and active in various scientific, professional, technological and community fields, held at the Algerian Embassy in London.

During this meeting, the Secretary of State emphasised the Algerian government’s determination to harness the expertise of its professionals living abroad—particularly those working in leading scientific and technological fields —in the process of national construction and development led by Algeria; He announced the organisation of a forum dedicated to developing a roadmap designed to realise the objective of placing the Algerian diaspora at the heart of the national project, noting the creation of a special administrative body tasked with monitoring all projects and initiatives proposed by Algerian professionals abroad.

For their part, the Algerian professionals taking part in the meeting expressed their appreciation for the initiative taken by the Secretary of State, which had provided them with an opportunity for exchange and discussion, and stated that they were fully prepared and willing to play their part in the project to build the new Algeria.

The second stop on the Secretary of State’s visit to the United Kingdom took him on Saturday 6 June to the Consulate General, where he met face-to-face with members of the community visiting the consulate, listened closely to their concerns, and took the opportunity to discuss the new measures taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their benefit, aimed at streamlining and simplifying various administrative procedures.

The Secretary of State’s visit to the Consulate General’s premises was also marked by the official inauguration of the multi-purpose hall attached to the Algerian Cultural Centre in London, located within the Consulate General’s premises. This hall, which had been requested by many members of the community, will enable them to gather for various cultural events and activities intended to strengthen the bond between members of the community residing in London and the United Kingdom in general, on the one hand, and between them and their homeland, on the other.

The third and final stop on the Secretary of State’s visit took him on Sunday 7 June to the northern city of Manchester, where he met with a number of civil society representatives and heard about the efforts about their efforts to strengthen community cohesion and preserve Algerian national identity within the city. He also listened to the concerns and challenges they face, particularly those related to the geographical distance from London and, consequently, from both the Embassy and the Consulate General, which makes access to administrative services more difficult.
