National Day of Knowledge

As part of its efforts to strengthen ties of belonging and national pride among members of the Algerian community residing in the United Kingdom, the Algerian Embassy in London marked The National Day of Knowledge on April 16th, 2026, by organizing an interactive meeting that brought together Algerian academics, researchers and students pursuing their studies at the British universities. The event provided an opportunity to exchange views and share experiences regarding the opportunities and challenges facing Algerian students in Britain.

The session began with an address by His Excellency the Algerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mr Noureddine YAZID, in which he highlighted the historical significance of this occasion which commemorates the memory of the Algerian scholar Sheikh Abdelhamid Ben Badis. He also emphasized the efforts being made by the highest authorities, led by the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to advance the education and scientific research sectors, particularly through the introduction of new scientific disciplines focused on technological developments such as artificial intelligence and cyber security. In addition, the Ambassador praised the role of the Algerian community in the United Kingdom and the role of the scientific elite in fostering the country’s efforts to development and in drawing on their expertise.

The event also featured an academic presentation on the history of educational developments in Algeria both before and after the colonial era, as well as two panel discussions: one dedicated to Algerian researchers and university faculty, and the other to students representing a non-exhaustive sample of the Algerian scientific community’s elite, whose academic backgrounds span fields as diverse as medicine, computer science, finance, and engineering...

The speakers took turns sharing their specific experiences and knowledge gained at British universities, expressing their willingness to contribute their know-how and expertise to the national effort.

The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to share their respective experiences and discuss the best ways to engage them in contributing their added value to the country’s development.
