Commemoration of the Victory Day (March 19, 1962- March 19, 2026)

The Embassy of Algeria in London commemorated today, March 19, 2026, the 64th anniversary of Victory Day (March 19, 1962).

This date marks the day on which the ceasefire was declared between the National Liberation Front (FLN) and the French colonial authorities, following protracted negotiations that concluded with the signing of the Evian Accords between the representatives of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) and the representatives of the French Government, thus bringing an end to seven years of the liberation war since its outbreak on November 1, 1954, and recognizing the Algerian people’s right to self-determination.

This historic Victory Day symbolizes the culmination of decades of struggle under the National Movement and the armed resistance waged by the Algerian people for over seven years of his glorious revolution.
